| Q3 | Provide a brief history on web browser development and the issues encountered by web developers, specifically, the adherence to web standards. | |
|---|---|---|
| The first web broswer, WorldWideWeb, was developed in 1990 by Tim Berners-Lee, the same man who would go on to found the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) in 1994. Without web standards, it is extremely difficult for websites and browsers to cooperate hence the creation of the standards organisation W3C. The W3C publishes web standards and protocols in order to promotes compatibility and allow different parts of the web to work together and understand each other. One primary example is HTML, the web markup language, and CSS, the style sheet language. | ☐S ☐US | |
| Q4 | What are website testing methodologies? Your answer MUST cover browser compatibility, and website functionality. | |
|---|---|---|
| In order to test a website thoroughly, developers must ensure that they function on a range of standard browsers. Website functionality can be tested through means such as the W3C Markup Validation Service, an online resource that parses HTML and returns a list of issues where the HTML does not conform to expected standards. Browser compatibility can be tested by opening the webpage in multiple browsers or using emulation tools such as Firefox DevTools to mimic another browser, as well as inspecting HTML elements and viewing CSS conditions. | ☐S ☐US | |

|---|---|---|
| Assets are best organised with HTML pages in the root folder and other resources in designated second-level folders e.g. [root folder]\[image folder].
